Low Carb Variations Of Your Favorite Recipes
The number one reason that dieters fail is that they only eat foods that they don't like or don't want. When you give up everything that you love to eat, you are more likely to lapse in your diet, go on a binge, or give up all together. But it doesn't have to be that way. Even though you are going on a low carb diet, there is no need to get rid of your favorite recipes. You simply have to learn to substitute ingredients to create low carb recipes.
Fried Chicken: Make this recipe go low carb with a few simple substitutions that will actually make the chicken come out crispier and more juicy than your original recipes. Instead of breading with while flour, use whole wheat flour. Watch the labels. Look for something like "stone ground" or "whole grain." Instead of using cereal or bread crumbs to make it crispy, use a few tablespoons of wheat germ.
Use only canola oil to fry your chicken, because it has no trans fat, only monosaturated (good fat). Then, use a lot less by lightly coating a baking dish, like a cake pan, and baking the chicken at 350 degrees instead of frying on a stove. Your end result will be juicy, crispy chicken with half the fat, twice the fiber, and less than half the carbs. Low carb recipes like these will be the envy of all of your friends!
Bread Crumbs: When your recipes call for bread crumbs, you have four main options, depending on the type of recipe you are trying to convert to low carb recipes. You can use home made, whole wheat bread crumbs for things like meat loaf and meat patties. Another option for filler is whole oats. (Make sure you don't get the processed, only whole grains here!) You can use wheat germ to replace bread crumbs when the purpose is to add texture or crispy topping to dishes. (Wheat germ is low carb, high fiber, and gets very crispy when baked.) Or, you can make some low carb recipes by substituting finely ground nuts. Rice Dishes: Most recipes that call for rice can be made into low carb recipes simply by substituting brown rice for white. However, you might want to add some additional seasoning. Whereas white rice has little flavor of its own, brown rice has a distinct flavor that may need to be masked for some low carb recipes. Bread and Pasta: As a rule, you need to steer clear of these as much as possible when on a low carb diet. However, you can use some bread and pasta if you buy the right kind. Make sure that all of your breads and pastas read "whole grain" or "whole wheat." Some of the best whole wheat bread is the multi grain bread. But watch your ingredient labels! Make sure that any grains that are in the bread or pasta include the words whole grain.
