Low Carb Snacks That Won't Make You Feel Deprived
Most diets are hard to stick to because they expect you to go without the normal amount of food that you usually eat. That is where low carb diets are different. With low carb diets, you often eat more. Since you are counting those carbs, you are less likely to get and stay full on the foods you will be eating. Here are some great ideas for filling, low carb snacks that are cheap and easy to prepare.
Ants On a Log: This children's favorite is a great low carb snack for the low carb dieter. A little peanut butter spread on a stick of celery, with a few raisins added on top. This is a great source of protein and fiber, not to mention a fun treat to eat! Join your kids for this fun low carb snack during board games or family fun night.
More Filling Than Yogurt: Yogurt is a low fat, low carb snack option, and a great substitute for pudding lovers. But the fact is, it's not that filling. For a more filling low carb snack, mix a quarter cup berries with a third cup of cottage cheese. Just as yummy as yogurt, less fat, more protein and vitamins, and much more filling than other low carb snacks.
Lettuce and celery make great snacks, and vehicles for what used to be your favorite sandwiches. While they aren't really great for a meal, they are a good low carb snack. Put tuna or chicken salad on celery. Or, make lettuce roll ups with low fat, unprocessed lunch meats, cheeses, or salads. Corn tortillas have less carbs and fat than other tortillas, and more fiber. Use tortillas to make quick and easy snacks. You can make a small pizza by using a small corn tortilla, a little cheese, and some low fat pepperoni. Pop your low carb snack in the microwave for about one minute, until the cheese is melted, and enjoy! Or, you can wrap a corn tortilla around bean dip, spinach dip, or other low carb dips for a filling and healthy low carb snack. Check labels on some of the other nutrition bars that aren't marketed as being low carb. Because they are made mainly for dieters, these nutrition bars could be an alternative to the high protein low carb snack bars. If you know about a snack bar from a previous diet that you particularly liked, check the label and see if it qualifies as a low carb snack. Of course, there are the old stand bys for low carb snacks: nuts, jerky, and sunflower seeds. While these low carb snacks give you something to munch on slowly, they aren't really filling and won't really make you feel like you've eaten. But, if you are used to eating candy, cookies, or crackers throughout your work day, they can be a great low carb snack alternative.
